Small-space storage: five organizers worth trying under $25

In a small kitchen, storage fails in two ways: dead space (the six inches above a stack of plates that nothing uses) and over-categorized drawers (dividers that are so specific nothing actually fits them). We tested five under-$25 organizers to see which ones earn their footprint.

The five, ranked by what survived a week

1. Adjustable drawer dividers — the clear winner. Spring-loaded dividers that span the drawer and can be repositioned beat fixed trays every time, because real kitchens change weekly.
2. Stackable clear bins — best for the cabinet above plates. The transparency is the feature: you see what's there without pulling everything down.
3. Rotating turntable — genuinely useful in a corner cabinet for oils and bottles, but it wastes space if the items are tall or oddly shaped.
4. Over-the-cabinet-door hooks — fine on solid doors, risky on hollow or particleboard doors (same hinge-screw issue as under-sink door racks).
5. Fixed compartment trays — the loser. The compartments never match your actual utensils, and a third of the tray ends up empty while the rest overflows.

The verdict

Start with adjustable dividers and clear stackable bins. They adapt, they show you what you own, and they're the two organizers we're still using after the test. Skip anything with fixed compartments and anything that hangs weight off a particleboard door.
